How Pet Insurance Works
Pet Insurance works much in the same way as car insurance. Routine animal check ups, vaccinations, neutering or spaying are not normally included, but accidents, illnesses and death will usually be covered.
When making a claim some companies will deal directly with your vet and settle payments on your behalf. Other insurance companies have a system whereby you will pay the bill up front then the insurer will reimburse you:
- Visit a licensed veterinarian or specialist.
- Pay at the time of service.
- Have an authorized veterinary staff member fill out the claim form.
- Sign the claim form and send it, along with the original veterinary invoice, to the insurance company.
